Bill Gillespie

Rosie Garner

Hello again Ward IV:

Bill Gillespie said it was OK for me to write this update myself. He’s preparing a special email regarding vacancies on our boards and commissions, so look for that soon.

Speaking of opportunities, our City Council will have three vacancies in December in Wards I, II, and our own Ward IV. Bill is term limited, so this is his last year. I ask all of you to think about potential candidates you may want to encourage, or perhaps look at this opportunity yourself. Campaigns usually start mid to late summer, and the elections take place in early November. Call me; I’ll give you the details.

At last weeks study session, the Council, NURA (Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority) and the Planning Commission listened to two developers present their proposals for the land at I-25 and 120th Ave. Chambers were packed with additional citizens and staff. Both presentations were excellent, but the group favored one over the other based on the conceptual designs, and the strong emphasis on public meetings as a method for gaining citizen support and ideas. We’ll make the final decision at Council on Thursday night, March 10th.

With that in mind, Century theaters will be presenting staff with their site plan this week. We’re looking forward to this anchor complementing the retail and restaurant development I referred to in the last paragraph. The theaters (16) will be located in the vacant city-owned property just to the north of E.B. Rains Park.

You may have noticed that the "Northglenn Connections" newsletter has taken on a new format. It's in newsprint style and will appear in your mail monthly. Council and staff feel strongly that with so much going on in the city, a monthly newsletter was important in order to keep citizens informed and knowledgeable about new development, redevelopment, and various other projects in the city. This monthly approach is a work in progress, so any suggestions you may have to improve it, please let me know. In the meantime, I encourage you to read it cover to cover !!!

Speaking of newspapers, if you're not already a recycler, I urge all of you to at least recycle your newspapers since there is a strong market for recycled newsprint and the city does make revenue from this citizen effort. Of course, the real purpose here is to slow down the amount of waste going to our landfills, so recycle your #1 & #2 plastic, tin, aluminum and glass too. The recycling roll offs are located on the west side of City Hall, but closer to Ward IV residents at the Northwest Open Space parking lot north side.

Spring is upon us . . . at least my tulips are telling me that !! We sure could use some moisture. I gave my trees and bushes a shot of water this weekend. Spring also signals the first round of garage sales, so if you’re having one, let me know and I’ll help you advertise via this email.

Once again, please share this email with your neighbors who are without computer access. Also, I’d appreciate your help in telling a friend to sign up. Our numbers are growing slowly but surely. I think this is such a great way to get information out quickly and in a timely fashion.

Stay tuned . . . . . . . .
