Hello Again Everyone:
I noticed today that the water is flowing in Farmers Highline . . . that only tells me that summer is on the way. The daffodils and tulips seem to have survived our big whiteout last weekend, which signals we’re well on our way to the summer months.
I just want to send out this special message to remind you that two Northglenn locations are hosting a Channel 9 HealthFair, one of each side of town.
The first is this weekend on Saturday, April 16th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 11385 Grant Drive. The other is in Ward IV on Monday, April 18th at Crossroads Baptist Church, 10451 Huron St. Both events begin at 7A for those who are fasting for blood work, and go on until 12noon. As most of you already know, these events are all about free medical screenings along with some that require a nominal payment such as the blood draws, prostate and colon cancer screening. Results can be taken directly to your regular physician. I personally think this endeavor is incredibly worthwhile, even if you just go and get your blood pressure taken.
We had a great meeting with our Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Tuesday night that was attended by what looked like 100 people. Bill and I were really impressed with the presentation by our police officers who coordinate this program. I just want to thank everyone who attended and displayed such a strong and enduring commitment to our city’s safety. Mark your calendars . . . the neighborhood safety awareness program called National Night Out is August 2nd. Much more on that later.
When I was walking last week I ran into a couple great Ward IV residents, Virgil Hall and Ross Bruny who were picking up trash along Croke Reservoir. They are both alumni of our Police Academy and have taken responsibility for monthly cleanup along Huron from Naiad to 112th. These two guys seem to be involved in everything. Give them a pat on the back when you see them.
Kae Madden tells me that Ward IV still needs:
Trail Partners: Huron, 104th south to city limits, and Melody Drive from 104th South to Huron.
Parks Partners: Sperry Park, and J.D. Cayton at Hillcrest School
Flower Bed Partners: Northwest Open Space . . . the Kennedy Drive entrance and the 112th entrance bed. Sperry Park’s annual bed also needs a partner.
Call Kae (303-450-8949) if you’ve got some extra time to be a partner.
A reminder that “Mornings with the Mayor” continue to be a popular event every Monday morning at Atlanta Bakery. Free coffee and great conversation !!
We have council meeting tonight. I’ll send out an update after this weekend. There’s lots going on.
At your service,
Rosie Garner
