Hi again . . .Just wanted to update you on last night's council meeting. The motorized scooter/small pocket cycles ordinance passed after a public hearing on the topic. There was little to no opposition on the measure. So, we now join our surrounding cities with a ban on these vehicles driven primarily by pre-adolescents. The problem I see is catching them in the act on our streets, sidewalks and trails. Our police will do their best, but please be aware they'll be difficult to catch.
We had a presentation regarding the proposed libraries that will go on the ballot in November as a mill levy increase. I expressed concerns to Mike Sawyer (the Director of Rangeview Library District) once again about the library leaving the city for a location on 94nd and Huron. The ballot includes libraries to be built not only there, but also in six other locations in the district. The mill levy is projected to be $2.32/month on each $100,000 in home value. I plan on talking with a couple of Thornton's council members who have some concerns about the new Huron location also. I'm not completely convinced that we've exhausted all of the possible Northglenn locations.
The first reading on the ordinance to permit alcoholic beverages at the Stonehocker house, the recreation center and at selected public events in our parks was tabled until the May 26 meeting. The reason was the ordinance was revised and there wasn't enough time to review it properly for first reading.
Because of the nature of Northglenn's older housing stock, there will be a workshop to discuss architectural standards for single-family residences in Northglenn on May 18th 2005 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. This workshop meeting will give residents the opportunity to offer recommendations/changes to the city's existing ordinance. The discussions will include review of design standards for new and existing buildings, modifications and additions. This is a great opportunity to have input into what kind of design standards we want to allow. Call Celeste Flores at 303-450-8713 for more information. No need to make any reservation . . .just show up.
I understand that on May 15th there is a 50th wedding anniversary that will be celebrated by Eva and Guenter Vorwald who live over on Zuni. This is a great couple who are lots of fun in addition to being the proud owners of a lasting marriage.
City crews have begun to spray the dandelions. . .our parks are in full bloom. Pretty, but there will be thousands more next year. Thanks to them for being on top of this.
Take care everyone . . . . .

Rosie Garner
