I just have a couple things to tell you quickly because they're events coming up that affect us directly in Ward IV
There are two public meetings coming up . . the first is this Wednesday night February 22nd to discuss the future possibilities for Croke Resovoir and the surrounding park/natural area. This meeting will be held at Hillcrest School at 7P. As you know, this is one of my personal priorities for 2006. I'm increasingly concerned about the Huron side and the condition of the shoreline and fence. If anyone needs a ride for this meeting, let me know.
The second meeting is regarding future planning for Northwest Open Space. This will be the THIRD meeting with the public to finalize the opinions already gathered at the first two meetings. This one is scheduled for March 27th at 7P at the Recreation Center. Please mark your calenders . . . these have been very informative and productive meetings and a clear direction for NWOS is emerging.
We'll be cleaning up Farmers' Highline Canal and Greenway Trail on Saturday, March 11th. This is always a fun day, and the amount of trash picked up makes you realize what a worthy event it is. The wind has played havoc with the blowing trash this year, so it will be a big impact when we're done. Sign up at 303-254-7608 or go to www.northglenn.org and click on "volunteer" on the left side of the home page. The deadline is Friday, March 3rd, but I bet if you just showed up I'm sure you'd be put to work !!
Oh, and LUNCH is included when it's done.
One last thing . . if you're stuck with old computer equipment and need to dispose of it I suggest donating it to Community Computer Connection, a non-profit organization that receives, refurbishes, and distributes computers. In the past four years, these donations have provided more than 10,000 computers to Colorado's underserved communities and spared the landfills from 200 tons of materials and 30 tons of lead. For more information, please vist www.jaredpolisfoundation.org. Jared Polis is a member of the state Board of Education.
As I'm sure you've heard, our City Manager Phil Nelson has resigned. Be assured that his departure will not disrupt any of the city's services or current economic development plans. Phil contributions were many, and I personally will miss him and wish him well in his next position. We'll start a formal search for a new City Manager in the very near future. In the meantime, Leslie Cullen, our Deputy City Manager is running the show along with a plan for backup from a contracted source.
We're in the process of reconstructing this website. Look for some great new features and a more interactive approach. Bill Gillespie's picture is still here . . .enjoy it while you can !!!
