Hello again everyone. For all of you “moms” out there, I hope you had a great Mother’s Day. The weather was certainly cooperative.

I was at Lowe’s this morning and they have an excellent selection of tomato plants. Best I’ve seen. There must be 20 varieties. If you do wall-o-water, it’s time to get them in the ground !! I can taste the BLT’s now.

I noticed that the “Flight Deck” bar on 104th and Federal in Federal Heights has been torn down. I know some of you have lived in the north area for many years, and could share the history behind this bar. I’d love that update if any of you would like to fill me in.

A bit of bad news . . . .I was robbed at my home last month and the person was actually in my bedroom at 3A in the morning. I woke to hearing “movement” and discovered that someone was in one of my back bedrooms. I got out of the house and called 911, and our fine Northglenn police arrived within a couple minutes. As it turned out, I was one of four robberies that same night, the rest occurring in south Ward IV around Melody Drive and Lou Drive. The police did apprehend the person who was in my house, so I managed to retrieve all my belongings including my car which he used to get away. I guess if he had not stopped to assist his buddies he may have gotten away with it. This type of robbery in the middle of the night has been occurring more frequently in the north suburbs, especially Boulder and Broomfield. So . . .please keep lights on all night, be sure ALL your exterior doors are locked (including garage service doors) and also any doors leading from garage to inside your home. Any systems you create that make it difficult or time-consuming to penetrate will deter a criminal. They want to do things quickly and without any hassle. Looks like the guy who got in my house simply went from house to house until he found one that he could get into easily.

I had lunch today with Officer Chris Wilderman, Ward IV’s PERT police officer. PERT stands for “Problem Evaluation Response Team”. He’s in charge helping you initiate a Neighborhood Watch program if you think that’s something you’d like to do. Crime rates diminish significantly when there is evidence of neighbors watching neighbors. Call him at 303-450-8892, ext. 8246 if you want to inquire about how it works. Officer Wilderman is a great person to know . . .he’s sincerely interested in the safety of our citizens in Northglenn, and he knows what crime is going on in Ward IV.

Thursday’s Council meeting (May 12) will include a couple ordinances you might be interested in. The first is one regarding the prohibition of motorized scooters and mini-cycles on our roads, sidewalks and trails. This is in response to numerous contacts both to the police and myself regarding the noise and danger not only to the rider, but also the cars and pedestrians. The second is an ordinance that allows alcoholic beverages by event permit at the historic Stonehocker (Thede) house and the recreation center. This would allow the city to rent out these facilities for weddings, anniversary parties, etc. I am the sponsor for both of these ordinances, so if you’d like to comment on either, I’d appreciate the input. Otherwise, both will have public hearing opportunities on Thursday night if you want to come up to the podium and speak for the record.

I understand there will be fire hydrant flushing in Ward IV beginning this week. This is a necessary activity in order to keep all lines open and in good working condition. I remember getting on my bathing suit as a child and having a good time for free. Sounds like fun, even now ! It would probably be mighty cold.

Once again, please print this message for your neighbors who don’t have computers. Also, you can forward this to anyone who isn’t subscribed. Please help me encourage them to sign up !! Go to “Northglenn.org” and click on the link on the left called “@ Home in Ward IV”
