Hello again Ward IV residents . . AND HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!!

The most important thing you may want to hear about is the recount of the January 18th election. That recount occurred January 24th. There was no significant change in the outcome, the ballot question remains defeated with the margin reduced to 12 votes instead of 13. Once again, the importance of each and every vote is something to be remembered for the next municipal or general election.

So, what’s next ?? The citizens have spoken that they do not want the recreation center design and amenities as proposed on the ballot. Council is respectful of that and will honor the election outcome, so it’s back to the drawing board.

We have discussed the next steps carefully. We’ve decided that we need to actively engage our citizens in a series of public meetings in order to ask them to help us not only create a vision for our recreation center, but also a comprehensive look at all aspects of future planning for Northglenn. That process may include other areas of interest such as new economic development along with redevelopment of older retail areas, our parks and trails, etc. We’re considering using an outside organization in order to keep the discussions unbiased. There will be ample advertising of the public meetings ahead of time, and there will be many to choose from in case you can’t make the one scheduled for your neighborhood. We will keep you posted regarding our plans with the meetings, and post the dates as soon as they become available.

We’ve seen graffiti at Northwest Open Space in the last few months, and our city staff has done a great job of removing it within 24 hours. This prompt approach has proved to be a deterrent to gangs. Please report any graffiti you see to the hotline, 303-252-3849.

I see there's a new flower bed at Rotary Park (Westview School). It's at the base of the sign. We bet the city will be looking for someone interested in being a FlowerBed Partner for that one !!!

Mayor Novak hosts “Mornings with the Mayor” every Monday morning at 8:30A at Atlanta Bread Company in the Marketplace. The coffee is free and the conversations are great. This is also a great opportunity to get to know other citizens. We know this isn’t the best time for many of you, but if you’re available on Monday mornings, come on down and get your questions answered by the Mayor herself.

Congratulations to Fred and Irene Carillo on their 50th wedding anniversary !!!

The Council will be meeting with Adams 12 School Board in early March for the first time in a long while. We are looking forward to establishing a more firm partnership since we feel strongly that the schools are an integral part of our community and our neighborhoods. If you have any issue or concern regarding the school district and the city, give either of us a call and we’ll see what we can find out.

One last thing . . .there will be a cleanup of Farmers Highline Canal and the adjacent trail on the morning of Saturday, March 5th. These cleanups are actually fun and include a free lunch !! To volunteer call 303-450-8949 or email kmadden@northglenn.org

Once again, please print this page for your neighbors or friends who don’t have a computer. We appreciate that and also ask you to help us get the word out about this email project. We welcome any news you’d like us to spread. . . . just give either one of us a call.

Till the next time . . . . .
