Happy Earth Day !!
Jill and I hope that this day at a minimum reminds you that this planet is resilient, but fragile when it comes to how much it will tolerate. We hope you spent some time today planting, recycling, walking or changing out some incandescent light bulbs to the energy efficient 7 year fluorescents.
ReCreate Meetings and Online Survey
We have a few things we’d like to remind you to help us do, if you’re so inclined. The first is the ReCreate meetings, the last of which is Monday night April 23rd at 7P at the Recreation Center. The meetings consist of the results of the first round of “wishing” for what residents would want at a new or remodeled Center, along with some prioritization of those amenities that didn’t make the top eight. A.J. Krieger, our City Manager uses the rest of the meeting to describe the city’s current financial state, and begins to describe potential financing options. We highly recommend this opportunity to participate.
If you can’t make the Monday night meeting, you can still provide your input by responding to the online survey, which is currently on the
www.northglenn.org website. Click on “Opportunities for Public Input”, then on “ReCreate Together Website”. On the left is the Main Menu, click on the “Online Survey”.
It’s important that we get as much input as possible, so that we get a sampling of what the citizens of Northglenn are favoring as far as what could be built into a new or existing Recreation Center.
RTD WANTS YOUR OPINION
The second thing we need help with is for you to comment to RTD regarding the FasTracks North Metro Corridor, and station location. Jill and I feel that it is critical that the entire city have input regarding this decision, which will affect the citizens of Northglenn for generations to come. Don’t miss out on voicing your preferences. The current maps show stations located at 124th and Claude Court in Thornton, 112th and York in Northglenn, with an alternative site where the tracks cross east 104th in Thornton at or around Fox Run Parkway. Please be aware of the distances Ward IV residents have from all of these station locations. RTD has the North Metro Corridor scheduled for completion in or around 2015, so this isn’t going to happen tomorrow. The city has plenty of time to prepare for the 2% contribution to infrastructure required by cities at each train stop built within their city limits.
You can call the
RTD opinion Hotline at 303-299-2000 or
www.rtd-fastracks.com and click on North Metro Corridor then “Get Connected” to leave your suggestions or comments regarding station location preferences, or any other general comments.
Also there is a Fastracks Station Planning meeting scheduled for April 26th from 6-8P.M. at the Recreation Center, second floor. Drop in and make your opinions known.
Charter Review
Lastly, City Council is interested in doing a comprehensive Charter review this year. Our charter hasn’t been reviewed completely since the early 1980’s, and we feel there may be some additions or subtractions that could make it a better document. We are looking for citizens from the entire city to get involved in this very worthwhile project. I would guess this may not only be interesting, but also quite a learning experience. Call our City Clerk, Diana Lentz at 303-450-8755 to get an application, which can be mailed, picked up or sent to you via email.
Once again, please forward this newsletter on to your friends in Northglenn, or print it for your neighbors who may not have computers. Please encourage other citizens to subscribe, as we have found this to be a very effective method for getting city information to you.
At Your Service,
Rosie Garner and Jill Parsons
