Hello Again Ward IV:
Jill and I have so much to share with you it’s difficult to decide what to start with. We’ve taken the lead from the Councilmembers in Ward II and will adopt their easy-to-read format. We hope this newsletter is informative and enjoyable.
Council Meeting Audio Added to Website
In order to further inform our citizens, the city’s website now includes audio of all of our open meetings, including council meetings and study sessions. Listening is possible within about 15 minutes after the conclusion of the actual meeting. The audio is not live. Simply go to the city’s website and click on Public Documents on the left side. Click on “Council Agendas”, pick the date you’re interested in, and click on the audio option. This is a great way to hear your elected officials in action.
Northwest Open Space Final Meeting
The final meeting (3rd in a series) was held at the Recreation Center in late March. Once again, the citizen attendance was great, and the final decisions were shared with everyone for group approval. It was made clear that the Oscar Arnold area was to be preserved, and that the potential for an exit road from the parking lot to 112th and Pecos was not going to happen It remained in the realm of possibility, but only if it was brought forward to the citizens again if the need arose. That need would have to be pretty serious based on the comments of the attendees. See the next section for further information on this. Parking lots were expanded more to the west which was a concern for some citizens who didn’t want the Oscar Arnold area infringed upon in any way.
North Metro Fire District Election
As I'm sure you already know, the election is set for May 2nd. We're not taking an official position on the ballot question, but encourage you to consider casting your vote for the Northglenn candidates for the Board of Directors There are five candidates in all, 2 from Broomfield and 3 from Northglenn. REPRESENTATION FROM NORTHGLENN IS IMPORTANT. Polling places are at the fire station at 10550 Huron and 10946 Irma Drive. You can vote at either place.
Oscar Arnold Nature Area
City Council in total approved the new boundaries for this area at our meeting of April 13th. The new perimeter is the service road on the west, 112th Ave. on the north, Park Vista on the east, and the trail on the south. The new protected area now includes the entire area with the potential for a road eliminated. This should put an end to this possibility which was bothering many residents and users of the area. We think this was a good decision for Northglenn, and now preserves this nature area for our future generations.
Channel 9 Health Fair
Crossroads Baptist Church will host the Channel 9 Health Fair this year at 104th and Huron on Monday, April 24th. It begins at 7A and goes till 12noon. If you want blood drawn, you'll need to be fasting, so get there early. This is a great opportunity to get some basic health screening done at a reduced price. The information is forwarded to your doctor if you want. What a deal.
Economic Update
There are any new things to report. We’ll give you the highlights:
-
Century Theaters - - -the building plans have been approved. Century needs to apply for the building permits which they historically do all at one time. They have selected their contractor, and all the fire code issues have been resolved. We’ll be at the movies soon !
-
The car wash on Washington just north of Malley is open for business and the line up of cars last week was long. The lube shop portion is still under construction and will open mid-summer.
-
Reyes Restaurant is going to open in the old Dairy Queen at Washington and Garland. We’re looking forward to their menu.
-
Money Tree will be opening in the old Schlotsky’s site on 120th.
-
Moto-Spa will locate on Claude Court behind the Shell Station. This is a car wash and coffee shop combination. The lot was oddly sized, so this is a great use for a nice location.
-
Mervyns - - city staff is working with the owner of the building who has several potential tenants.
-
Floyds Barber Shop and the Vitamin Shoppe are under construction at Washington and 120th with completion and opening date mid-summer.
Final Report on the Illegal Vehicle Sweep
A total of 728 illegal vehicle notices were served. This number was much more than we estimated when this project began. Some statistics:
-
316 (43%) of the cases were closed by voluntary compliance (licensed, repaired or removed).
-
394 (54%) of the cases were closed by issuance of a summons
-
18 (3%) cases remain open due to inability to issue summons.
-
42 vehicles were towed by the city
Ward Meeting Scheduled
Jill and I will host a Ward IV meeting on May 15th at 6P. We’ve not confirmed the location yet, but we wanted to give you the date and time so you can put it on your calendar. Look for a flyer on your door, this newsletter and the Northglenn Connections for final details and agenda.
Congratulations !!!!!!!!
Our heartfelt congratulations go to Jimmy and Glenda Gaye Bennett who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 15th. Jimmy and Glenda have been Northglenn residents since 1967.
One Last Thing
City Council is currently interviewing recruitment companies (commonly known as head-hunters) who will subsequently help us with our search for a new City Manager. This is a complex process, but I assure you we’ll take our time and make the right choices.
Once again, if you have friends or neighbors who you think are interested in these newsletters, print them or forward them for us. Encouraging them to subscribe is even better. We'd love for you to look at our new format where we're posting current code violations and other crime statistics for our ward. There's a survey question right now about recycling and we'd love to hear your opinion. It’s easy through the city’s website by clicking on “eGovernment” and then clicking on “E Newsletters”. We think this is a great way to reach you with the city’s information from our perspective.
At Your Service,
Rosie Garner and Jill Parsons
