Hello again everyone:
I hope you’ve all got ways of keeping COOL in this really really warm weather we’re having. I fight every day just to keep my vegetables and flowers from sunstroke. I guess before we know it, we’ll be raking leaves, so think positively.
I want to make sure you are all aware of our combined Ward III and Ward IV community meeting on Tuesday, July 26th. We’ll start out by asking you to bring your supper along with a blanket or lawn chair for some time together from 5:30 to 6:30p.m. The actual meeting will start at 6:30p.m. We’ve got a full agenda, so I hope we can get it all in. You should see a flyer on your door to remind you of this meeting during the week of July 18th. Council members from both wards will host this meeting at Centennial Park, which has also been called Eleanor Wyatt Park at Melody and Kennedy. We’re providing free dessert !!
From Council meetings the following was approved or discussed:
1. We passed an ordinance allowing alcoholic beverages at private occasions at the Stonehocker House, the recreation center and certain enclosed structures in our parks. This ordinance has a lot of restrictions and conditions, but will allow alcohol at weddings, receptions, company picnics etc. in the designated areas.
2. We approved the developer contract for Northwest Open Space. For now, they will develop a master plan and design a central pavilion with bathrooms and concession space.
3. We revoked the liquor license for Northglenn Liquors in the Garland Shopping Center due to some non-compliance issues.
4. We discussed the issue of pit bulls and the current discussions going on in our surrounding communities due to attacks or threats. I assure you that we have a very strong vicious dog ordinance that is not breed specific but would certainly cover any pit bull issues. I will be watching this closely and will keep you posted.
5. We discussed options for Croke Reservoir and the surrounding park/undeveloped area. Public meetings will be held to determine what you would like to see this park ultimately be. . . .park-like or a natural area. My main concern at this time is the fencing along the reservoir on Huron. It looks pretty bad.
Upcoming Events:
**National Night Out August 2nd. This is a night we ask Northglenn residents to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for this annual crime and drug prevention effort. Keep your porch lights on. Attend a Neighborhood Watch party to better acquaint yourself with your neighbors. Contact Officer Kathy Bailey (303-450-8934) or me if you want to get involved in this event or in the Neighborhood Watch program.
**Study Session July 21st. Council will be discussing the options we have for the recreation center post January election. (Council chambers)
**Study Session August 3rd. Council will be discussing adoption of rental codes citywide. This topic has generated a fair amount of controversy from the landlords and realtors in Northglenn. It will be held at D.L. Parsons Theater because we expect a fair amount of citizen attendance.
We’ll be having a Council vacancy in Ward IV come December of this year. Bill Gillespie is term limited after nearly 20 years of service to the citizens of Ward IV and the entire city of Northglenn. Packets for candidates are ready for pickup in the City Clerk’s office if you’re interested in his job. I’ll be happy to entertain questions if you’re unsure of anything. I encourage any one of you who have thought about this commitment in the past to just DO IT. I’ve never regretted one second of my tenure thus far.
I want to congratulate the fine gardeners who were awarded with the Yard of the Month for June in Ward IV as part of our Beautification Program. They’re located at:
1040 W. 100th Place 10373 Pecos
1144 W. 97th Ave. 10463 Sante Fe
10544 Carmela 10759 Roseanna
11059 Claire Lane
These are incredible yards, and the citizens who’ve worked so hard deserve a genuine pat on the back. If you have access to Northglenn’s Channel 8 programming, they are featured there in all their glory !!
Sorry for the lengh this time . . . .
At your service,
Rosie Garner
