Hello again, Ward 1 Residents! I hope that you are all doing well on these cooler September days. The weather really did shift from warm to cold. Brrr. I thought I would take the time to share with you the information that came out at the September 12th Ward social as well as give you some regular updates and issue an invitation for you all to come to the City Manager Interview Process.
As most of you know, September 12th Jim Miller and I hosted a Ward Social at Al Thomas Park. Unfortunately there was some problem with the delivery of the flyers and they did not reach your doors until the day before the meeting. My apologies for that happening. We try to get them out at least a week in advance. The next one will go out with plenty of notice time. The weather remained in tact as I finally had a back up location set up this time. My thanks to the Northglenn Christian Church for allowing us to use their facility had the weather gone awry. There were lots of questions from residents about the goings on at the City. Jim and I fielded the questions to the best of our abilities and have referred to our staff for more in depth responses. There were a few presentations at the Social to update residents on some key issues at the City.
- A representative from Rangeview Library District attended the meeting to give residents information about the upcoming ballot question for the Libraries in the district. The current plan states that Northglenn’s Library will be closed and a new one will be built at 94th and Huron. Discussion has been ongoing between the Library District’s Board and City Staff and Council representatives on the possibility of building a new Library in Northglenn. If you are interested, there is a joint meeting of City Council and Rangeview Library District on Thursday, September 28th at 5:30 p.m. Ultimately this falls in the voter’s hands and is a major topic of consideration to all.
- Chris DeMay of the NG Parks Board gave an overview of work he has done in the City to designate Open Space areas as Nature Areas. There are several locations that he is looking at doing this for and wanted to make sure he has citizen input and buy-in before suggesting the changes. The area in Ward 1 that Chris has been looking at is in the Fox Run Open Space areas. Chris fielded questions from residents and has since appeared before the Fox Run Homeowner’s Association and residents of Fox Run to get additional input. If you would like to comment on this or ask any questions of him please contact Chris at DemayC@exempla.org.
- RTD/FasTracks Task Force recommendation update – Information regarding the Task Force’s recommendation to City Council was relayed to residents. The Task Force recommended that there be no stops in Northglenn due to land issues. None of the sites were very large to accommodate a TOD (transit oriented development – high density mixed use residential/retail/restaurants…etc) and/or the areas being considered had some serious drainage or track curvature issues. The TOD would have been an excellent source of generating more revenue for the City. However, the Task Force felt that pursuing a stop in conjunction with a TOD would be too costly to the residents. The final recommendation cites that there is potential for the area up north of 120th and Claude Ct where Thornton is placing their stop. The vacant land next to Karl’s Dairy Farm could be purchased and developed for use as a TOD if the owners of that land decide to sell to developers. There is no current deal pending. Citizen input is still a must on this issue as RTD does their environmental impact study. Please contact me if you wish to stay involved with this process and receive regular updates on RTD’s process.
- The City Manager search is narrowing down to a few final actions. A first round of interviews with six of the candidates was held recently. Of those six, City Council is bringing back three for final interviews. The public is invited to attend the events. A public reception will be held on Friday night – yes this Friday, September 29th- at the Ramada Hotel on 120th and I-25 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. The three candidates will be in attendance to greet the public. On Saturday morning City Council will interview the candidates individually starting at 8 a.m. in a public meeting. We estimate that we will take a lunch break around 11:30 a.m. or 12 p.m. and reconvene in a panel interview at 1 p.m. in which the public will be allowed to ask questions. The questions will have to be written on a card and passed along to the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Time is an issue so we all preferred to have the questions asked in this manner. Once the panel has finished answering questions from the public, Council will adjourn into an executive session and hopefully make a choice on your new City Manager. Please join us in the selection process.
I think that is enough information for now. It is too easy to keep adding to what gets put in these newsletters and then pretty soon you might just fall asleep. Hopefully not! As always, please contact me with your questions and comments. 720-872-8265 or spaiz@comcast.net.
Be well and see you Friday and Saturday (I hope)!
